Have you ever thought about becoming an EMT or Firefighter?

Maybe you decided that you could never do it?

You can!

Springfield’s fire and ambulance services are always looking for volunteers. If you have the interest, we have a place for you!

Both the Springfield Ambulance Corps and the Springfield Fire Department are comprised of volunteers who have a wide variety of “real” jobs. We are teachers, nurses, tradesmen, scientists, lawyers, police officers, and much, much more.

Keep on reading to see if volunteering in emergency services is for you!

I'm interested in volunteering as an EMT!

I'm interested in volunteering as a Firefighter!

The Corps

The Corps’ ambulances are staffed 24/7 by volunteers.  We are a 911-dispatched, BLS ambulance.  Our responsibilities includes basic life support in medical and traumatic emergencies.  For calls that require advanced life support, or ALS, we are usually joined by a paramedic who works for Crozer Keystone.

We are currently accepting applications for membership with the Springfield Ambulance Corps (“SAC”).  No previous experience is required and you do not need to live in Springfield Township to join.

SAC Prospective Members

Prospective members who are not already certified are expected to obtain certification within a year of membership.

The EMSVO certification, along with CPR and First Aid, will allow you to function as a Driver/Lifter.

The EMT certification will allow you to function as the medical provider on our ambulance, following successful completion of our in-house training program.

Reimbursement for EMT school is provided.  We currently reimburse at a rate equal to the non-credit DCCC EMT class.  Fifty percent reimbursement is provided at 6 months of service, upon request.  The remaining is provided at 1 year of service, upon request.

Our Membership Application is available online.

SAC Incentives

  • Reimbursement for certification
  • Free continuing education credits
  • Incentive program for hours volunteered
  • Patient contact hours for Paramedic, Physician Assistant, and Physician studies

SAC Junior Member Program

Our Junior Member Program is designed for members between 16 and 18 years of age and/or high school students who are enrolled in EMT school or are already certified as an EMT.  Our Junior Members are permitted to volunteer outside of normal school hours and are not permitted to volunteer for overnight shifts.
